The talented and rising artist Muni Long has been making waves in the music industry with great music. But Muni has also been candid about her health journey and raising awareness for certain health issues.
For example, last year, she revealed her diagnosis of Lupus -an autoimmune disease where the body’s immune system attacks its own tissues and organs. This can cause fatigue, & joint pain.
Muni Long’s Autism Diagnosis
However, this Sunday again, she took to Twitter and shared another important update. It was about her being Autistic. In her tweet, Muni Long opens up about her autism diagnosis and how it has impacted her life.
She explained that the version of herself that she had been repressing since the age of 22 was actually her “free self”. She describes further that, at one point, she turned to drugs to cope with the discomfort that her true self caused others.
She describes how hard it was for her to contain the symptoms and felt the need to freely express her emotions, thoughts and feelings. Moreover, her diagnosis of Lupus has added more weight to the Autism already, making it more difficult to manage.
She says that the constant rollercoaster of autoimmune disease has taken a toll on her emotionally, and now she’s at a point where it feels impossible to contain her repression. But even in the challenges she faces, Long appreciates that at least she knows she’s Autistic.
Kanye West Autism
Famous singer Kanye West, on the other hand, revealed through texts to Elon Musk that he has “signs of autism.” West believes that his car accident in 2002 was the cause for him developing the spectrum disorder. The accident left him with a broken jaw, which was wired shut, and ultimately led to his breakthrough single “Through the Wire.” This was according to a text he sent to Elon Musk and later asked Ian Connor, a fashion designer, to post it publicly on his behalf.
In The text directed to Musk, who owns Tesla and SpaceX, Kanye requested that the nature of their relationship change if they were to communicate again. He reassured Musk that he owed him nothing and made a point to clarify that he is not bipolar, but rather has signs of Autism stemming from his car accident.
Rise of autism awareness
The rise of autism awareness among artists is truly remarkable. More celebrities are taking steps to speak about their own experiences as regards Autism, thus providing attention to an often misunderstood condition. This not only helps to break down stereotypes and stigmas surrounding Autism but also encourages others to openly embrace their own neurodiversity.
Notable organizations such as Illinois Autism Center also actively work towards increasing awareness and understanding of Autism through various initiatives and campaigns.
This includes promoting acceptance and inclusion of individuals with Autism in all aspects of society, from education to employment, as well as providing quality treatment and support for individuals with Autism and their families
